Overview

The Credit Manager works in conjunction with the CLO to set policy, and manage the work flow and activities of the underwriting and credit function. Oversees the performance of the loan portfolio originations, monitoring and evaluating, on an ongoing basis, new and existing portfolios for potential risks and exposure. Reviews loan structures to ensure acceptable credit standards are maintained and all loans conform to established company policy. Works closely with Directors in Lending to establish a good balance between growth and quality and in the development of new programs, products, etc.

Credit Policy

 

  • Works with CLO to develop and maintain documented organizational credit policy, making changes as appropriate and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with lending project team and vendors to create and update credit scoring models.
  • Perform annual review of loan portfolio and provide construction recommendations in credit policy to senior management.

 

Loss Mitigation

 

  • Participate in risk assessment practices to identify areas of concern or potential exposure to loss.
  • Monitor applicable reports to identify and communicate trend problems, classified, non-accrual, and restructured, delinquent and non-performing assets to Chief Lending Officer.
  • Monitor and make recommendations for allowance for loan loss in an effort to maintain reserve levels commensurate with portfolio growth and risk assessment.

 

Credit Function Management

 

  • Assess and support development of additional loan and credit products to allow for loan portfolio growth while diversifying and maintaining managed levels of acceptable risk.
  • Serve on asset/liability management team.
  • Trains, teaches and develops staff, actively coaching and counseling individual underwriters and analysts to improve their credit analysis, underwriting and negotiating skills.
  • Responsible for evaluating and approving or declining credit requests outside of underwriters’ authority.
  • Evaluate the activities of lending personnel , including their compliance with lending policies and quality of loan approval.
  • Approval loan authority roles.

 

Loan Review Management

  • Develops internal loan review procedures to evaluate credit administration and credit risk.
  • Directs and manages loan review team and function to ensure loans are in compliance with credit union lending policies and risk guidelines.
  • Provides guidance and input on more complex credit review issues.

 

Team Management

 

  • Supervise underwriting staff including; interviewing, hiring, training, coaching performance and resolving discipline issues.
  • Provide continued education and personal development of underwriting/loan review staff to enhance their personal growth.
  • Leads team by example integrating organizational core values into daily activities of self and team.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance.
  • 5 to 7 years of direct loan review or loan, credit underwriting and portfolio management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of best practices of credit risk management and credit policies and procedures as well as real estate lending practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of loan accounting, credit analysis, financial analyses, lending practices, banking regulations, and Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of financial analysis including ratio, trend and cash flow analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial lending policy, procedures, loan documentation and appraisal requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare and present persuasive reports effectively to credit union personnel of all levels, including internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners.
